Meet the 2008 Volunteer Leadership Group

ON COURSE SERVICES

Be a part of the On-Course Service Team that is responsible for crowd management, gallery noise, and player movement. The following categories are further detailed teams within this service division.

  • Marshalls - Responsible for crowd management, gallery noise control, and player movement. Committee also provides van and golf cart drivers to shuttle players from the course to secured areas following completion of play and/or due to inclement weather to safety. Marshals are expected to work four (4) shifts throughout the week.
  • Rovers - Responsible for crowd control outside of roped off areas throughout the course such as walkways for PGA TOUR player movement. This includes escorting Pros to and from the putting green and to the first teen as well as controlling the crowd at the driving range.
  • Course Command Center
  • Driving Range - Sets up and maintains the practice facility for the contestants and works with security personnel to exercise gallery control at range. Ensuring that player identification placards are in place and up to date.
  • Putting Green//Chipping area - Sets up and maintains the practice facility for the contestants and works with security personnel to exercise gallery control at the range.
  • Course Maintenance Team
  • Special Services/Beverage Course Support - responsible for distribution of refreshments for players and volunteers and other goods to various locations throughout the course. Replenishing those coolers throughout the day and collecting them in the evening are also responsibilities of this committee. Distributes tournament program, spectator guides & pairing sheets and any other information items to hospitality areas, resort property, entrances, and other.

SCORING SERVICES

Be a part of the Scoring Service Team that is responsible for recording and keeping statistics hole-by-hole for the WGC-CA Championship players. Training in this area will be provided by PGA TOUR. The following categories are further detailed teams within this service division.

  • Leaderboard // Scoreboards - Displays scores and status on manual leaderboards which are located on course. Responsible for updating and communicating progress with scoring control headquarters.
  • Scoring Control - Serves as "nerve center" for receiving and relaying all scoring information during the WGC-CA Championship. Scoring control filters scoring information to manual and electronic leaderboards and serves as check point for score verification.
  • SHOTLink Walking Scorers - Scorers walk with each group to keep statistics and hole-by-hole records for each player. Mandatory training session the Sat. before tournament and practice round Tues. or Wed.
  • SHOTLink Laser Operator - Operates stationary tripod lasers at locations on the course to provide statistical information. The lasers are stationed greenside and at designated landing areas. The SHOTLink System collects and disseminates scoring and statistical data on every shot, real-time, during every match via the use of hand held palm pilots. The gathered information is used immediately by television, PGA TOUR.COM, and the TOUR Links player laptop program. Training is provided by the PGA TOUR. Additional information can be found at SHOTLink.com. Mandatory training session the Sat. before tournament and practice round Tues. or Wed.
  • Standard Bearers - responsible for recruiting and coordinating high school students (13 - 18 years of age) Each Standard Bearer must be able to carry the standard (app. 5-6 pounds) and walk the length of the course. The standard displays the Pro's score in relation to par on a cumulative basis.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES

Be a part of the Volunteer Service Team that manages, assists, and supports all the volunteers that are involved with the WGC-CA Championship. The following categories are further detailed teams within this service division.

  • Volunteer Clubhouse - this committee will manage the Volunteer Headquarters, serve as a message center, and act as a general checkpoint for all volunteers. Will distribute lunch coupons and act as our Volunteer Hospitality committee.
  • Volunteer Communication - work closely with tournament office and General Chairman on volunteer newsletter, photos, etc. prior and during tournament week.
  • Uniform/Credential Distribution - provide service for inventory and distribution of all volunteer apparel and benefits. Also, sells merchandise during tournament week.
  • Volunteer Party - work with tournament office and coordinate all components regarding the volunteer party. From working with caterer, site set-up, collecting raffle prizes, and coordinate time, location, guest speakers and post clean-up for a successful volunteer party.
  • Golf Cart Distribution - Responsible for cart distribution and control during the WGC - CA Championship Week. Committee also ensures carts are returned and charged at the end of each day. Early morning and afternoon shifts are available.
  • Championship Office Support - assist the tournament office prior to and during the tournament in the general administration duties to include answering the phones, taking ticket orders, and assisting with distribution of important information, and greeting office guests. Oversee management of volunteer resources, duties will include; distribution, database development & management, and processing volunteer registrations. Volunteers are needed beginning in August, 2006. Be a part of behind the scenes on how the tournament runs. Volunteers on this committee should be available to work during the weekdays, between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

PLAYER SERVICES

Be a part of the Player Service Team in becoming a courtesy car driver to transport players and VIPS of the WGC-CA Championship. Also, will assist in the inventory and tracking of all vehicles of the tournament. The following categories are further detailed teams within this service division.

  • Pro // VIP Transportation Airport/Hotels - Transports players, officials and VIPs to and from the golf course, airport and hotels. Drivers are also needed before and after the event to collect and return cars to the local dealerships. Distribute, deploy, check, maintain, inventory and logo the fleet of transportation vehicles provided to the tournament by the official car sponsor. Distribute these vehicles to Pros, VIPs, tournament staff and officials. This group also supports airport meet/greeters.
  • Media News Center/Mobile Inter. - be a part of a very exciting area working with local and International media in supporting their operational needs.

SPONSORS & SPECTATOR SERVICES

Be a part of the Sponsor & Spectator Service Team with sponsors in hospitality areas by checking proper credentials, meeting and greeting guests and provide Championship information to all sponsors and spectators. The following categories are further detailed teams within this service division.

CORPORATE HOSPITALITY

Hosts corporate sponsors in hospitality areas by checking spectators for proper credentials, meeting and greeting guests, and providing WGC - CA Championship information.

"Hospitality Greeters" for the following areas:

  • International Club -located behind putting green between 1st Fairway & 18 Green.
  • 18th Green Skyboxes -located at the 18th green
  • Ambassador Suites -located by the 9th fairway
  • Alliance/Envoy Suites -located at 17th green
  • Champions Patio//Clubhouse
  • Honorary Observers - this volunteer committee are stationed at #1 & #10 scoring tents to welcome, register, credential, and outfit and orient the Honorary Observes. Honorary observers are select VIP's designated to walk inside the ropes with assigned PGA TOUR groups.
  • AM / AM Golf Outing - assist tournament staff with the details that surround the Am/Am event held on March 26th; registration table, gift distribution, sponsor service.
  • ADA & Volunteer Transportation On-Course - transports volunteers and ADA patrons to specific areas on the golf course.
  • Entrance Marquee & Admissions/Information/Lost and Found - Posted at admission gates to greet & check spectators for proper credentials, sell tickets, provide general and directional information to the public, and serve as a lost and found drop off area. Become a part of the "Red Caps" for any information needs.
  • Tournament Parking - coordinates the various groups that have been hired by the tournament to park cars and also, assists with tournament Bus Company. Oversee all parking lots; Player, Media, Caddie, ADA, Public, Sponsor, and Volunteer.
  • Will Call - Assists in the distribution of credentials.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER CATEGORY
